Tension has gripped Ayede Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State after suspected kidnappers killed a 34-year-old man and abducted a businesswoman in the community.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday when about 10 armed men stormed the town, shooting into the air to scare residents. They came in two unregistered vehicles—a silver-coloured EOD and a grey Toyota Camry.
During the attack, a man identified as Okudili Okoro was shot dead. The gunmen then abducted a popular provision seller in the area, Mrs Orogun, and escaped in different directions.
A resident who witnessed the incident said: “We quickly informed the police, and they responded immediately. They promised to arrest the criminals and rescue the woman. As of now, the kidnappers have not contacted anyone or demanded a ransom.”
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, saying that a manhunt has been launched to track down the attackers and rescue the victim.
This latest incident adds to the growing concern over rising insecurity in parts of Ondo State and the broader South-West region. Residents are calling on security agencies to do more to protect lives and property.
