    Minor Dies in Niger After Stick Attack During Dispute

    A 10-year-old boy, Abubakar Lawal, has died after a fight with other children in Karaku community, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

    The incident happened on Sunday, August 11, 2025, while Abubakar and his friend, Hassan Adamu Umar, 9, were returning home from grazing their parents’ sheep in the forest.

    According to the Niger State Police Command, the boys were reportedly blocked by four minors — Musa Aliyu (10), Umaru Abdullahi (6), Maryam Abdullahi (10), and Fulaira Jika (4). During the confrontation, Musa allegedly hit both Abubakar and Hassan with a stick, leading to serious injuries.

    The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Kagara, where Abubakar was confirmed dead. Hassan is still receiving treatment.

    Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, describing it as a suspected case of culpable homicide. He stated that the minors involved have been brought in for questioning along with their parents.

    “Further investigation is in progress, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna,” Abiodun said.

    The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy as authorities continue to look into the tragic event.

    This case has raised fresh concerns about child safety, supervision, and the increasing number of violent incidents involving minors in rural communities.
