Abia APGA Denies Merger With ADC

    Share

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has firmly denied reports that its Abia South senatorial zone structure has collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released on Thursday, the party’s spokesperson, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, described the claims as false, misleading, and baseless. He said the rumour was being spread to distract the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections, where it plans to take over the Abia Government House.

“The story making rounds that APGA structures have merged with another party is completely untrue,” Nwokoro said. “There are no verifiable facts in the report, and it should be disregarded by the public.”

Nwokoro clarified that the individuals mentioned in the media report as leading the defection are not APGA members. He said available records from Ward 6 in Aba South show that the individuals left the party in 2020 and have not returned since then.

“There is no collapse of structure in Abia South or anywhere else in Abia State,” he said. “Those names being circulated left years ago and are not recognised members of APGA.”

According to Nwokoro, APGA in Abia remains united and organised, with Ambassador Sunday Onukwubiri firmly in charge as State Chairman. He also said the party enjoys peace and stability across all 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

“There is no leadership crisis in APGA,” he stressed. “Our ward and council executives are working together, and the structure is fully functional.”

He highlighted that the party is growing stronger in all three senatorial districts and pointed to recent electoral victories as proof of APGA’s influence in the state.

Nwokoro highlighted the election of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Alex Ikwechegh (Aba North/South Federal Constituency) as clear evidence of APGA’s growing popularity and relevance in the state.

“These are big wins that show APGA is not only active but is also a serious contender in the state’s political space,” he said.

He also said the APGA structure in Abia South, led by Chief Lucky Erondu, is still intact, adding that local government chairmen under the zone are working closely to push the party’s vision forward.

Nwokoro assured party members and supporters that APGA remains focused and committed to contesting all positions in the 2027 elections, including the governorship.

“We are not merging with any party,” he said. “We are consolidating our grassroots support and preparing for victory. The people of Abia can trust APGA to provide the alternative leadership they deserve.”

He advised the public to disregard rumours of defection or collapse, saying it was the handiwork of political opponents who are worried about APGA’s rising profile.

APGA has long been an influential party in the Southeast region, particularly in Anambra State. In Abia, the party has gained ground in recent elections, winning strategic legislative seats.
