Charly Boy Slams Deji Adeyanju Over Allegations Against Peter Obi

    Share

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has fiercely condemned Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer, over his recent allegations against Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate. The criticism has sparked a fresh round of political drama, with both sides locked in a war of words.

Charly Boy, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressed his anger at Adeyanju’s claims that Obi tried to bribe him during the 2023 presidential election campaign. According to Adeyanju, Obi allegedly invited him to a meeting, during which he offered him money in a brown envelope, which Adeyanju claimed to have rejected.

However, Charly Boy quickly dismissed these allegations, labeling them as false and irresponsible. He accused Adeyanju of spreading lies to gain attention and please his “paymasters,” a phrase often used to refer to those who allegedly sell their principles for financial gain.

“Deji Adeyanju, na wa for you o! You don carry ya mouth waka go where e no belong. Na so so lie lie and yeye talk you dey yarn about Peter Obi, just to trend and please ya paymasters,” Charly Boy wrote, using Pidgin in his post.

The allegations made by Adeyanju in a recent post claimed that during the 2023 election campaign, Obi invited him to discuss his political views. He said that during their conversation, Obi offered him money in a brown envelope, which he turned down. According to Adeyanju, this was a clear attempt by Obi to bribe him for his support.

These statements have raised eyebrows, especially considering Adeyanju’s reputation as an activist who has long been outspoken on issues of corruption and political integrity. His sudden shift in tone, accusing Obi of such actions, has led many to question his motives and the authenticity of his claims.

Charly Boy wasted no time in hitting back at Adeyanju, calling his actions reckless and accusing him of selling his principles for personal gain. In his post, Charly Boy stated that Obi was one of the few Nigerian politicians who still had a conscience and was offering hope to millions of Nigerians.

He criticized Adeyanju for turning into an “errand boy” for what he described as “chop money politics” – a phrase commonly used to refer to the politics of greed and self-interest.

“Obi na man wey still get small conscience for this obodo wey don spoil finish. Na him still dey give millions of Nigerians hope say beta Nigeria dey possible,” Charly Boy said. He also added that Adeyanju was only chasing clout, seeking attention by attacking Obi.

Charly Boy emphasized that no one should be allowed to tarnish Obi’s reputation with baseless accusations, especially when there was no evidence to back up Adeyanju’s claims. He also warned Adeyanju that his “reckless and irresponsible behavior” could lead to legal consequences.

“If you no get respect, at least get small sense. This ya reckless and irresponsible behavior fit make you chop legal breakfast,” Charly Boy cautioned, referencing possible legal action that could follow the defamatory claims.

The accusation from Adeyanju has stirred up significant controversy, especially considering Obi’s political stature. As a former governor of Anambra State and a prominent figure in the 2023 presidential race, Obi’s supporters have long viewed him as a man of integrity, who is committed to fighting corruption and promoting good governance in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Adeyanju, a former member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and an active critic of the current administration, has often been seen as a political provocateur. His recent allegations against Obi, therefore, raise questions about his true intentions. Is he genuinely concerned about corruption, or is he attempting to create division for personal or political gain?

Charly Boy’s defense of Obi has added fuel to the fire, as the entertainer is known for his vocal support for good governance and political transparency. His strong stance against Adeyanju has won praise from some quarters, while others have questioned the wisdom of getting involved in such a heated political argument.

As the political drama continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Adeyanju’s claims will have any lasting impact on Obi’s political reputation. However, with figures like Charly Boy rallying behind Obi, the former governor’s supporters are showing no signs of backing down.
