Fake Beggar Caught With ₦20m, Accused of Molesting Boys

    Share

A physically challenged man, who posed as a beggar for over five years in the Kubwa area of Abuja, has been arrested by police for allegedly molesting young boys and hiding millions of naira in his bank account.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially released by authorities, shocked residents and investigators after it was discovered that he had over ₦20 million stashed in his personal bank account, despite begging on the streets daily.

According to police sources, the man had built a reputation in the community as a harmless and needy beggar. People often gave him money out of sympathy, unaware of his true financial situation and the dark allegations that were about to emerge.

His arrest followed complaints and disturbing reports from residents in Kubwa, especially parents, who noticed suspicious interactions between the man and young boys in the area. Police launched an investigation and placed him under surveillance before finally moving in to arrest him earlier this week.

During interrogation, he was found in possession of multiple bank cards linked to an account containing more than ₦20 million. Investigators are now trying to trace the source of the money, as well as determine whether other criminal activities were involved.

More troubling are the allegations of child molestation. Several boys have reportedly come forward, claiming the man lured them with money and gifts before sexually abusing them. Police say they are working closely with child protection services to assist the victims and gather more evidence.

Residents of Kubwa have expressed shock and outrage over the incident, calling it a betrayal of the trust people placed in the suspect. “We always thought he was a poor man trying to survive. I can’t believe he had all that money and was harming children,” a local trader said.

The FCT Police Command has urged parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior involving children in their neighborhoods. They also warned the public not to judge people by appearances alone.

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities say he will be charged to court once all evidence has been gathered.

The case highlights growing concerns over fake beggars and hidden crimes happening under the guise of poverty in Nigerian cities.
