Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, is facing backlash following a recent television interview aired on Sunday night.
In a sharp response, former federal lawmaker and human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, described El-Rufai as “an angry and frustrated man.”
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, made the remarks while reacting to statements made by El-Rufai during the interview. Though El-Rufai’s full comments were not quoted, the former governor is believed to have spoken critically about the current state of governance and politics, sparking reactions across the country.
“Shehu Sani’s reaction is not surprising,” a political analyst in Kaduna told our correspondent. “He and El-Rufai have a long history of political rivalry, especially during El-Rufai’s eight-year tenure as governor.”
El-Rufai, who served as minister of the Federal Capital Territory under President Obasanjo and later as governor under the APC, has remained a controversial figure in Nigerian politics. He is known for his bold, often divisive statements.
Sani, on the other hand, is known for his strong views on democracy, human rights, and good governance. He has consistently criticised El-Rufai’s leadership style, especially on issues of insecurity and governance in Kaduna State.
