President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Abuja for a 10-day working vacation in Europe. The trip, which begins on Thursday, is part of his 2025 annual leave, according to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

The short statement said President Tinubu will spend his vacation in France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria. Onanuga described it as a “working visit,” but did not give further details about the purpose or agenda of the trip.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today, Thursday, September 4, proceed on a short private visit to Europe, where he will spend 10 working days between France and the United Kingdom,” the statement read.

This trip comes just two weeks after the President returned from Brazil, where he attended the G20 summit and held meetings with world leaders on economic partnerships and investment opportunities for Nigeria.

President Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips have sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some see them as necessary for attracting international investors and strengthening diplomatic ties, others argue that the President should spend more time addressing the pressing challenges at home.

Some political commentators and opposition figures have questioned the timing of the President’s vacation, given the current state of the economy and growing public discontent.

However, the Presidency has repeatedly defended Tinubu’s travels, insisting that they are in the interest of the country. Officials have also stressed that even while on leave, the President remains in touch with his team and continues to carry out some official duties.

Since assuming office in May 2023, President Tinubu has made several international trips, including visits to France, the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil. His administration says these trips are part of efforts to revive the economy and strengthen Nigeria’s global position.

The President is expected to return to the country after the 10-day break.
