Native Doctor Caught in Anambra Using Discarded Condoms for Witchcraft

    Share

Residents of Echara community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State were left in shock after a native doctor was caught in possession of used male condoms allegedly collected for ritual purposes.

The suspect, who identified himself as Anagbo Emeka from Umugbo in Ayamelum Local Government Area, was apprehended by local youths who found his activities suspicious. A video of the incident was posted online by a Facebook user, Dr Uche Nworah, and has since gone viral, drawing widespread condemnation and concern from the public.

In the video, Emeka openly confessed to using the condoms for preparing charms and witchcraft items. He also admitted to contracting a commercial sex worker to collect used condoms for him from brothels and lodges.

“I had an arrangement with a woman (prostitute) to sell to me used condoms,” he said in the video. “We agreed on the deal and she delivered. However, I didn’t know she had other plans against me and leaked the secret. That’s the bad thing I have done.”

The native doctor further explained that he used the items to prepare charms for people involved in land disputes, police cases, and personal conflicts. He also claimed to offer services to those seeking spiritual powers for manipulation and protection.

“I use the collected items to do charms for witchcraft,” Emeka stated bluntly.

The woman who supplied him with the used condoms was not identified in the video, but it was gathered that she tipped off residents.

It remains unclear if the suspect has been handed over to the police as of the time of this report. However, residents of Echara are calling on security agencies to investigate the matter fully and ensure justice is served.

A traditional leader in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident has brought shame to the community and urged the government to take stronger action against harmful spiritual practices that involve human waste and bodily fluids.

“This is an abomination. That someone is going around collecting used condoms to prepare charms is evil and dangerous to society,” he said. “We urge the police and government to act quickly.”

The incident also raises public health and security concerns, as the use of human waste in ritual practices is not only a violation of ethical norms but also poses health risks. Experts warn that bodily fluids can carry infectious diseases, and handling such waste without proper precautions can lead to outbreaks.

Cases like this are not entirely new in parts of Nigeria, where certain individuals still engage in fetish and ritualistic practices. In recent years, several reports have emerged of ritualists using human parts or materials for alleged spiritual purposes — a trend that has sparked national debate about the need to balance cultural beliefs with public safety and human rights.

The Anambra State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
