Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has successfully intervened and resolved the internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ife Federal Constituency, following weeks of tension and division within the party.
The resolution, which comes ahead of the critical 2026 general elections, was announced in a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday. According to the statement, peace was restored during a high-level reconciliation meeting held at the instance of the Governor, with key stakeholders of the party in attendance.
Last week, leaders of the PDP in the Ife Federal Constituency passed a vote of no confidence on three top party figures, including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, accusing them of anti-party activities. The accusations centred around alleged associations with former PDP members in the constituency who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development created tension within the party and sparked fears that the division could weaken the PDP’s stronghold in the region ahead of the next election cycle.
However, Governor Adeleke, in a show of political leadership, quickly stepped in to manage the situation and bring all factions to the table.
During the meeting, Governor Adeleke described the crisis as being fuelled by miscommunication and external influences, which he said were aimed at destabilising the PDP in Ife.
“Throughout this meeting today, I saw Ile Ife PDP truly united,” the Governor said. “I listened to all the leaders and I see clearly that there was a communication gap among them. There is also a strong sign of an outsider plot to divide the Ife PDP.”
He urged all party members to remain vigilant and avoid being used by those working against the interest of the PDP.
“Ile Ife is a PDP territory. Go back and sustain the tempo. I commend the elders and leaders, the senatorial leader, local party chairmen, and other stakeholders. We have done so much for Ife, and we will do more,” he added.
The Governor called for intensified mobilisation across the constituency, stressing that his administration remains committed to development in the region and political unity within the party.
Also speaking at the meeting, Sunday Bisi, the Osun State PDP Chairman, downplayed the seriousness of the earlier vote of no confidence, describing it as a family disagreement.
“All parties have demonstrated true love for the party. We are glad that all issues have now been ironed out,” he said.
He added that the meeting resolved to resume all statutory meetings for party mobilisation, and all members should now avoid any action that could be seen as anti-party.
“It is now the duty of all PDP members to show discipline and unity. We must work together to secure our base ahead of the elections,” Bisi stated.
At the end of the meeting, participants declared the crisis officially resolved and agreed to work together in the interest of the party’s success in future elections. They also reaffirmed support for the leadership of the state government and the Deputy Governor, effectively nullifying the earlier vote of no confidence.
Those present at the meeting included:
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi
Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Senate Minority Leader
Teslim Igbalaye, Secretary to the State Government
Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, Chief of Staff to the Governor
Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Chairman of the Commissioners’ Forum
Other senior PDP stakeholders and operatives from across the Ife zone.
The Governor had earlier expressed his full confidence in the Deputy Governor, further signaling that any internal divisions have been resolved at the highest level.
With this reconciliation, the PDP leadership in Osun State appears focused on closing ranks and strengthening the party’s presence in the state. The Ife Federal Constituency is seen as a strategic base for the PDP in Osun, and observers believe that resolving the crisis early is a smart move by Governor Adeleke as preparations begin for 2026.
Party supporters are now being urged to return to the grassroots and rebuild trust as the PDP positions itself for another electoral victory.
