Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has received the giant cooking pot she will use for her next major challenge — cooking the world’s biggest pot of jollof rice.
The massive red pot, which has a total volume of 22,619 litres, arrived at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos in the early hours of Thursday, just ahead of the highly anticipated cook-a-thon.
The pot was custom-fabricated in Gbagada, Lagos, and moved under tight supervision overnight to the event venue. Videos circulating on social media show the pot, branded with Gino (a major food brand), being carefully delivered and offloaded.
“At 4am this morning, our pot was safely transported from Gbagada, where it was fabricated, to Eko Hotel, where the event is taking place. I’m still pinching myself — this is actually happening in less than 24 hours.”
The event is expected to attract a large crowd and international attention, similar to her previous record-breaking cook-a-thon held in May 2023. That event saw Hilda cook for over 93 hours, earning her a Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon.
This time, her goal is to prepare the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, a popular West African dish. The event will also serve as a cultural celebration, with music, food, and live entertainment expected to take place at the venue.
The Guinness World Records team is expected to monitor the event closely for compliance with its guidelines. If successful, Hilda Baci will set another global record — this time not for duration, but for quantity.
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to cheer her on, using hashtags like #JollofWithHilda and #HildaBaciAgain.
As the countdown begins, excitement continues to build across the country for what promises to be another historic culinary moment.
