Wike Hails Tinubu for Restoring Peace in Rivers State

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a bold move to restore peace and democratic governance in Rivers State.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said the President’s timely decision to lift the emergency rule earlier imposed on Rivers has saved the state from further political tension and uncertainty.

“President Tinubu has once again shown that he is a true leader who stands for peace and democracy,” Wike said in the statement issued on Wednesday. “His action has not only calmed the situation in Rivers but also renewed the people’s faith in his leadership.”

Rivers State had recently been at the centre of political unrest following months of internal crises between key political players in the state. The situation reportedly led to concerns about a possible breakdown of law and order, prompting a temporary emergency rule to stabilize the region. President Tinubu’s intervention, however, brought an end to the emergency situation, reinstating Governor Siminalayi Fubara and returning the state to civilian governance.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers and a major political figure in the state, said the President’s swift action has helped prevent further escalation of the conflict. He thanked Tinubu for prioritizing peace and national unity above political interests.

He also urged all political actors and stakeholders in the state to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of Rivers people. According to him, the time for political battles is over, and everyone must now focus on peace, progress, and development.

“I want to call on all parties involved to embrace dialogue and reconciliation. The people of Rivers deserve peace, not more conflict,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister did not stop there. He issued a strong warning to individuals he described as “fifth columnists” — people trying to benefit from the crisis — to stay away from the state. He said any attempt to reignite trouble in Rivers would not succeed.

“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress and development,” Wike declared.

His comments come as a sign of a new chapter for Rivers State, which has faced political turbulence in recent months. Many residents and political observers have welcomed the federal government’s decision, expressing hope that it will usher in a period of calm and effective governance in the state.
