Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is set to address the people of the state in a live broadcast at 6:00 pm today, Friday, following his return to the Government House in Port Harcourt after days of political tension.

Fubara, who resumed official duties following the suspension of a proposed emergency rule in the state, was warmly received by a large crowd of supporters at the Port Harcourt International Airport. He later proceeded to the Government House, where he expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming show of love and solidarity.

Speaking shortly after his arrival, the governor said he was humbled by the warm reception he received and noted that it was a strong message of support from the people.

“I am humbled by what I saw at the airport,” Fubara said. “I was also briefed about what happened here yesterday. That reception really humbled me. It shows love, confidence, and solidarity. It is not just a celebration.”

Fubara described the turnout as a clear sign that the people of Rivers State remain strongly behind his administration, despite recent political unrest. He said it confirms the strong bond between his government and the citizens.

“The massive reception by the number of people who came out to celebrate is a reaffirmation of the bond between this government and the people that we are serving,” he added.

Governor Fubara also promised to continue serving the state with commitment and to keep doing the things that have earned him the trust and support of the people.

“I want to assure you that we will continue to do those things that have made you people love us. I want to appreciate everyone and to say that we love you,” he said.

He added that his statewide broadcast at 6:00 pm would be used to formally thank all individuals, groups, and institutions that played a role in restoring calm and preventing a breakdown of law and order in the state.

“We are going to address the state officially by 6:00 pm, and in that broadcast, every authority that gave support to this normalcy will be properly recognized,” he said.

The governor’s return comes after several weeks of tension and political power struggles within the state, which led to fears of instability and even talks of emergency rule. However, recent moves by national leaders, including interventions from security agencies and political stakeholders, appear to have calmed the situation.

Fubara’s planned address is expected to clarify the state of affairs, reassure citizens, and highlight steps taken to ensure peace and development in Rivers State.
