Six Arrested for Kidnapping Business Partner in Lekki

    Share

Six men have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting their business associate in the Lekki area of Lagos.

The victim, popularly known as “Senator,” was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday and held hostage for three days following a business disagreement. He was rescued on Friday morning by police operatives after his family raised an alarm over his disappearance.

According to a police source who spoke with journalists on Sunday, the family of the victim filed a missing person report when he failed to return home. This prompted detectives to begin tracking his whereabouts.

“The family became worried after he didn’t come home. When they couldn’t reach him by phone, they came to the station and filed a complaint. We quickly launched an investigation and traced his phone signal to an apartment in Lekki,” the source said.

A rescue team was then dispatched to the identified location, where the victim was found and freed. The six suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

Another officer familiar with the case revealed that the victim was subjected to harsh treatment during the period he was held. His phone was seized, and money was withdrawn from his bank account without his consent.

“It was discovered during interrogation that the suspects had been in a joint business with the victim. When the business failed or didn’t go the way they expected, they decided to kidnap him as a way to forcefully recover their money,” the officer added.

Though the exact nature of the business transaction was not revealed by the police, it was confirmed that the suspects believed the victim owed them money. Instead of seeking legal redress, they allegedly took matters into their own hands by abducting him.

The Lagos State Police Command said investigations are still ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court as soon as the inquiry is completed.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said she had not yet received a full briefing on the case but promised to follow up.

“I will reach out to the division handling the case and provide updates accordingly,” she said.

This incident comes at a time when there is growing concern over cases of jungle justice and citizens taking the law into their own hands, especially in matters related to money and business.

The police have also warned that anyone found guilty of unlawful detention or abduction will face the full weight of the law, regardless of the motive behind the act.
