A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in what appears to be another disturbing incident of rising insecurity in the state.
The lawmaker, who represents Pankshin South Constituency, was abducted from his residence in Dong community, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a source, the gunmen stormed the area in the late hours of the night and took the lawmaker away. The identity of the abducted legislator has not been officially released at the time of this report.
This latest kidnapping has caused fear among residents and lawmakers in the state, as many believe that nowhere is safe anymore, not even the homes of public officials.
Security agencies in Plateau have not yet issued a formal statement about the incident, and it remains unclear if any group has claimed responsibility for the abduction or if contact has been made with the kidnappers.
Plateau State has been struggling with serious security challenges in recent years. From farmer-herder clashes to attacks on rural communities, and now targeted abductions, the situation continues to raise concerns among citizens and observers.
Just in the past few months, there have been several reports of killings, kidnappings, and attacks across different parts of the state, particularly in Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin Ladi LGAs. Many communities have been displaced, and thousands of lives lost due to recurring violence.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of security breaches in the state, and citizens are calling on both the Plateau State Government and federal authorities to take urgent action to improve security and restore peace.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the kidnapped lawmaker, while residents in Dong and other parts of Jos North remain on edge, fearing more attacks.
