Residents of Gombe metropolis woke up to a shocking discovery on Wednesday after an unidentified man was found dead along Dukku Road, behind the old stadium.
The lifeless body was spotted early in the morning by passersby, who noticed a rope tightly tied around the man’s neck and several visible injuries on his body. Eyewitnesses quickly raised the alarm, prompting residents and local authorities to rush to the scene.
According to those present, the man appeared to have been assaulted before his death. His body was later taken by emergency responders to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
As of the time of this report, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, and no personal items were found on him to help with identification.
The Gombe State Police Command has not officially commented on the incident, but sources say an investigation is already underway to determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.
Residents of the area described the incident as disturbing and called on security agencies to increase patrols, especially at night.
One resident, who lives near the scene but asked not to be named, said:
“This kind of thing is very strange for our area. We are worried because nobody knows what really happened. The way the rope was tied and the injuries on the body make it look suspicious. We hope the police will get to the bottom of it.”
While the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, speculations range from possible murder to mob action or even a failed robbery attempt. However, without concrete evidence, authorities say it is too early to draw any conclusions.
The body has been deposited at the Gombe Specialist Hospital morgue for further examination, and police are urging anyone with useful information to come forward.
