The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State, Mr. Gbenga Agun, has died after collapsing at a public event in Benin City on Thursday.
Agun was attending a programme organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates when the tragic incident occurred. He had just finished delivering his keynote address when he reportedly slumped in full view of the audience.
Eyewitnesses said the commandant was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital on Airport Road in Benin for urgent medical care. Sadly, he was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
As of the time of filing this report, both the Edo State Command and the national headquarters of the NSCDC have not officially commented on his death.
The unexpected passing of Commandant Agun has left many in shock, especially members of the security community and those who attended the event. The programme was aimed at promoting peace, unity, and good governance — values Agun was known to stand for.
Mr. Agun had served in various capacities within the NSCDC before his appointment as Edo State Commandant. Colleagues describe him as a dedicated officer who was committed to protecting lives and property.
