    10 Arrested Over Assassination Attempt on Ondo Monarch

    Police in Ondo State have arrested 10 suspects in connection with an alleged attempt to assassinate the traditional ruler of Igoba community, Oba John Adinlewa. The incident occurred in Akure North Local Government Area, with the monarch narrowly escaping harm.

    According to the Ondo State Police Command, the suspects launched a violent attack on the community, armed with dangerous weapons. During the assault, a resident, Mrs. Oluomo Ogunoye, was badly beaten and robbed of her belongings.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, responded swiftly after receiving a distress call. He ordered the deployment of security operatives, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations.

    The tactical team moved in quickly and arrested 10 suspects at the scene. Several weapons were recovered from the suspects, including two locally made pistols, a single-barrel gun, live ammunition, machetes, knives, and other items used during the attack.

    “The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the incident,” Ayanlade said. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

    The injured victim, Mrs. Ogunoye, is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well. Meanwhile, police are still searching for other members of the gang who managed to escape.

    Ayanlade added that peace has been restored in Igoba, and security patrols have been increased in the area to prevent a repeat of the incident.

    The Commissioner of Police reassured the people of Ondo State that the Command remains committed to the safety of lives and property. He also urged residents to always report suspicious movements to the police.

    Igoba, a growing community on the outskirts of Akure, has recently witnessed a rise in security concerns, with residents calling for stronger police presence. This attempted attack on a traditional leader has raised fresh worries, but authorities say they are on top of the situation.

    The suspects are expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue.
