There was tension in Kankia town, Katsina State, on Monday night after suspected bandits invaded the Bakin Kasuwa area and abducted two housewives without resistance.
According to local sources, the armed attackers stormed the area under the cover of darkness and carried out the abductions unchallenged, raising fresh concerns about the state of security in the region.
“Yesterday night, bandits stormed the Bakin Kasuwa area of Kankia town, Katsina State, abducting two housewives and escaping unchallenged,” a resident told newsmen. “The fact that such an attack happened in a key town like Kankia, unchecked, raises serious security concerns.”
The two victims, whose identities are yet to be made public, were taken from their homes during the attack, which lasted several minutes. No injuries or fatalities were reported, but residents remain in fear following the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command has not released any official statement on the attack, and efforts to reach security agencies for comments were unsuccessful.
Kankia is one of the major towns in Katsina North Senatorial District, and its location along a key route makes it a strategic area for both residents and commercial activity. The boldness of the attack, carried out in an urban area rather than a remote village, has raised alarm among locals and security watchers.
This incident adds to the growing number of kidnapping cases reported across Katsina State and other parts of Northwest Nigeria, where bandits often target rural communities, motorists, and now even towns.
Communities across the region have long called for improved security presence, particularly in light of recurring attacks that have forced many to flee their homes or live in constant fear.
As the victims remain in captivity, residents of Kankia are appealing to both state and federal authorities to act quickly to rescue the abducted women and prevent further attacks.
Katsina State, the home state of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has seen several security operations in recent years, but bandit attacks remain a troubling concern for many residents.
