The Yobe State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the death of a woman found near the fence of the Federal University Gashua, located in Bade Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the case was reported on the morning of Thursday, October 17, 2025, by a resident of the area, Yusuf Sarkin Baka, who lives in the Sabon Daula Ward of Gashua town.

Yusuf told the police that he discovered the lifeless body of a woman near the university fence while on his way out in the early hours of the morning. A police team from the Gashua Division was immediately dispatched to the scene to begin investigation.

Upon arrival, the officers found the body of a woman later identified as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar. She was a resident of Abasha in the Sarkin Hausawa Ward of Gashua. The deceased was found dressed in a black hijab, and there were no immediate signs of struggle visible at the scene.

Her body was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua, where a medical doctor officially confirmed her death. After an autopsy was conducted, her remains were handed over to her family for burial according to Islamic customs.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Falmata was not killed at the spot where she was found. SP Abdulkarim explained that evidence indicates she had been transported in a vehicle and dumped by the roadside—about two kilometers away from her residence.

“This new information has intensified our investigation. We are working hard to identify the people behind this act and bring them to justice,” Abdulkarim said.

The incident has shocked residents of Gashua and sparked fear among some community members, especially given the proximity of the discovery site to a federal university.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, assured the public that the police command is handling the matter with the seriousness it deserves. He promised a thorough and professional investigation.

“We will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. No one involved in this crime will go unpunished,” CP Ado said.

He also called on residents of Gashua and the surrounding areas to remain calm and assist the police with any useful information that could help solve the case. He highlighted that the cooperation of the public is vital to uncover the truth.

“The command remains committed to protecting lives and property, and to maintaining law and order across Yobe State,” the police commissioner added.

The death of Falmata Abubakar comes at a time when the state is making efforts to improve security and community trust in law enforcement. Although there is no confirmation yet on whether the incident is linked to any criminal gang or known conflict, police say all angles are being explored.

As of the time of this report, no arrests have been made, but the police say investigations are ongoing.
