Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has inaugurated two key subcommittees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of its 2025 elective national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The two-day convention is set for November 15 and 16 and is expected to produce new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). It is regarded as a major event that could shape the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Lawal, who is also the chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee, inaugurated the Accreditation Subcommittee and the Special Duties Subcommittee on Friday in Abuja.

The inauguration of the Accreditation Subcommittee took place at the PDP Legacy House in Maitama, while the Special Duties Subcommittee was inaugurated at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza.

During the event, Lawal said both subcommittees were vital to the success of the convention, as they would handle sensitive logistical and financial responsibilities that determine the smooth conduct of the exercise.

The Accreditation Subcommittee, according to him, will be responsible for producing the delegates’ list, printing booklets and tags, accrediting participants and observers, and ensuring the welfare of delegates throughout the convention period.

On the other hand, the Special Duties Subcommittee is expected to coordinate financial activities related to the convention, including approving budgets, managing disbursements, and supervising fundraising efforts.

Governor Lawal urged the members of the two subcommittees to carry out their assignments with transparency, diligence, and fairness, stressing that Nigerians and party members are expecting a credible and well-organised convention.

He said: “This convention is a crucial moment for our great party. We must demonstrate unity, discipline, and commitment to democratic values. The task before us is to ensure a credible process that will strengthen the PDP and restore public confidence.”

The PDP National Convention Organising Committee, chaired by Lawal, is overseeing all preparations for the exercise, including logistics, accreditation, security, and media coverage.

The 2025 national convention is coming at a critical time for the opposition party, which has been working to reposition itself following the outcome of the 2023 general elections. The party has held several reconciliation meetings across the country to resolve internal disputes and rally support among members ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Party insiders say the upcoming convention will also be an opportunity for the PDP to renew its leadership structure and reaffirm its status as Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Governor Lawal assured party members that the committees would deliver on their mandates, saying the PDP remains committed to organising a peaceful, credible, and transparent convention that reflects the will of its members nationwide.
