The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after holding the Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The result gave Nigeria a 3-1 aggregate victory over the visitors, ensuring the holders maintain their place among Africa’s top women’s football teams.

Head coach Justine Madugu made one change to the side that won the first leg, with star striker Asisat Oshoala coming in for Chiwendu Ihezuo.

Nigeria started the game strongly, putting the Benin Republic under pressure early. The Super Falcons broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when defender Ashleigh Plumptre powered home a header from a precise corner delivered by Esther Okoronkwo.

Despite creating several chances, Nigeria could not extend their lead before halftime. The Benin Republic fought back after the break, equalising in the 61st minute through Yasminath Djibril.
