Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has opened up about his struggles with religion, revealing that he converted from Christianity to Islam while searching for truth and spiritual enlightenment.
In a recent interview with streamer Playboymax, the “City Boys” crooner said his spiritual journey has been filled with questions and confusion, despite studying several religious books.
“Growing up, I was a Christian and then I converted to Islam. It’s like I’ve studied it all, but I’m still out here trying to find out what is really going on, you know? The more I research, the more confused I get,” Burna Boy said.
He explained that his search for meaning and connection with God is still ongoing, stressing that religion has not yet given him the answers he seeks.
Burna Boy, who is known for often expressing deep, reflective thoughts in his music, said his interest in different faiths stems from a desire to understand life’s purpose beyond fame and success.
His revelation has stirred conversations on social media, with fans sharing mixed reactions — some praising his honesty, while others urged him to stay grounded in faith.
This comes months after another Nigerian singer, 9ice, revealed that he embraced the traditional Ifa religion after suffering what he described as a “spiritual attack” that left him bedridden for six months.
For Burna Boy, however, his journey seems far from over. “I’m still searching,” he said, leaving fans curious about where his spiritual quest will lead next.
