Lagos APC Backs Tinubu’s Economic Reforms: Nigeria on Path to Recovery

    Share

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as his steady efforts to rebuild Nigeria’s economy, accusing opposition parties of trying to drag the country backwards for political gain.

In a statement released on Saturday by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the party said Tinubu’s recent statement at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting reflected his confidence and leadership at a time when the country is undergoing major reforms.

At the FEC meeting earlier in the week, President Tinubu had declared that “Nigeria is rising, and no amount of opposition bitterness can change it.” The Lagos APC said this message showed the president’s determination to move the country forward despite criticism and misinformation.

Oladejo described Tinubu’s speech as “a masterclass in clarity, confidence, and leadership grounded in verifiable results, not emotional blackmail or political hysteria.”

The Lagos APC said the president has been focused on rebuilding Nigeria brick by brick, through bold reforms that are beginning to show results.

“While opposition figures are busy dragging Nigeria’s image through the mud to remain relevant, President Tinubu continues to rebuild the nation — brick by brick, fact by fact, reform by reform,” Oladejo said.

He described Tinubu as “a president for this season,” noting that his courage, focus, and preparation have helped him tackle the challenges facing the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unmistakably the president for this season — prepared, courageous, focused, and divinely aligned with the demands of this moment in our national history. Nigeria is blessed to have him at a time like this. Where others panic, he strategises. Where others shout, he delivers. Where others sow fear, he inspires confidence,” Oladejo said.

Since taking office in May 2023, President Tinubu has introduced several major economic reforms aimed at stabilising Nigeria’s economy.

Key among these reforms are the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rates. While the government has described these steps as necessary to rebuild the economy, they have also led to a sharp increase in the cost of living, sparking criticism from opposition parties and some civil society groups.

Tinubu’s administration insists that the short-term pain will lead to long-term benefits as the economy adjusts. Supporters argue that the president inherited deep structural problems, including huge debts, unstable exchange rates, and high inflation.

The APC’s latest statement appears aimed at countering growing public frustration and highlighting early signs of recovery.

Oladejo said the government’s achievements were not based on propaganda but on facts that reflect growing investor confidence and improving economic indicators.

He pointed to several examples as proof that the president’s reforms are working.

According to him, the $2.35 billion Eurobond issue, which was oversubscribed by more than 400 percent, shows that global investors believe in Nigeria’s economic direction.

“The oversubscribed $2.35 billion Eurobond is not a political claim; it is the world voting with its money. Investors are not sentimental — they are convinced Nigeria is back on a growth path,” he said.

He added that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate had risen to 4.23 percent, the highest in a decade, while industrial output had nearly doubled.

Oladejo further claimed that inflation had dropped to 18.02 percent, foreign exchange reserves had climbed above $43 billion, and the country had recorded a ₦7.4 trillion trade surplus.

He also cited Nigeria’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list as another sign of improving global confidence.

“These are the fruits of courageous reforms, not propaganda,” Oladejo said.

The Lagos APC spokesman accused opposition politicians of spreading misinformation to discredit the Tinubu administration, describing their actions as attempts to remain relevant after losing power.

“The opposition has resorted to lies and twisted statistics to mislead the public. But facts don’t lie. Nigeria is gradually finding its balance, and the world is taking notice,” he said.

He argued that the opposition’s constant criticism is not backed by facts but by bitterness and desperation.

“Rather than offer constructive alternatives, they drag the nation’s image through the mud,” he said. “Their bitterness cannot erase the progress Nigeria is making under President Tinubu.”

The exchange between the APC and opposition parties such as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) reflects the growing political tension in the country.

Opposition figures have repeatedly criticised Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that they have worsened poverty and unemployment. Labour unions have staged protests against fuel price hikes and the high cost of living, while some citizens have accused the government of being insensitive to their struggles.

In response, the APC maintains that the current hardship is temporary and necessary to put the economy on a sustainable growth path. The party has continued to defend the president’s economic agenda, saying that results will become clearer in the coming months.

The Lagos State APC concluded its statement by reaffirming its loyalty to President Tinubu, who served as governor of the state from 1999 to 2007 and remains the party’s strongest political figure in the region.

“We in Lagos are proud of our leader. His policies may be tough, but they are necessary. Nigeria is gradually rising again,” Oladejo said.

He called on Nigerians to remain patient and optimistic, stressing that the country’s recovery will take time but will eventually bring relief.

“Real rebuilding takes time, discipline, and sacrifice,” he added. “President Tinubu has shown that he has the courage to take tough decisions. We must all support him to finish the work he has started.”
