Fear and shock have gripped the Tudun Yola area of Gwale Local Government in Kano State following the brutal murder of two women in a late-night attack on Monday.
The victims, who were co-wives, were killed inside their home at the residence of Alhaji Ashiru Shu’aibu. In a horrifying turn, the attackers set one of the bodies on fire, leaving the community in panic.
Alhaji Shu’aibu recounted the incident, saying the attackers struck in the middle of the night. “They entered our house at night, killed my wives, and then set one of the bodies on fire. I still don’t know why they carried out this wicked act,” he said.
A neighbour, who has a CCTV camera installed, revealed that footage from the night showed three young men standing at the entrance of the house. The men were seen hiding their faces, making it difficult to identify them.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. He stated that the police were investigating the case, but no further details would be released at this time to avoid compromising the investigation.
Residents of Tudun Yola and surrounding communities expressed deep concern about what they describe as an increase in violent crimes in some parts of Kano. The gruesome attack has heightened fears, particularly among women, who now worry about safety in their homes.
“This is very frightening. People now sleep with fear. We do not know who can strike next,” said one local resident, who preferred not to be named.
Kano State has experienced a variety of security challenges in recent years, including armed robbery, kidnappings, and violent communal clashes. While the state government has deployed security personnel and increased patrols in high-risk areas, attacks such as this demonstrate that some communities remain vulnerable.
Authorities have assured the public that the perpetrators will be apprehended. The Kano State Police Command urged residents to provide any useful information that could help identify the attackers. CSP Kiyawa reiterated the importance of community cooperation in solving crimes and preventing further incidents.
“The police are committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” he said.
The tragic killing of the two women has left families mourning and communities shaken, highlighting the ongoing need for comprehensive security strategies to protect lives and restore confidence among residents in Kano State.
