    Share

The United States Mission in Nigeria has launched an exciting nationwide social media skit competition, inviting Nigerians to showcase how American brands and innovations impact daily life across the country. The contest, titled “Made in America, Loved in Nigeria,” is open to all Nigerians aged 18 to 45 and offers winners attractive prizes aimed at supporting the country’s growing digital creator economy.

Announced on Monday through an official post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the initiative encourages Nigerians to create short, original videos that highlight the influence of American products, services, or ideas on homes, businesses, and communities across Nigeria.

Participants are required to produce a 90-second vertical video. Each video must be original and may not include copyrighted music, clips, or images. Videos with watermarks or non-original content will not be accepted. Creative Commons materials are allowed, but participants must follow the approved rules.

To enter, participants must post their videos on YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook, tagging @USinNigeria and using the contest hashtags #MadeInAmericaLovedInNigeria and #TradeThatTransforms. Only one submission per participant is allowed, and organizations, U.S. citizens, or Mission employees are excluded from participation.

Each entrant must also submit a signed eligibility and release form, confirming their age, authorship of the content, and consent from all individuals featured in their video. Failure to submit the form or follow contest rules, including avoiding explicit, abusive, or inflammatory content, will lead to disqualification.

Once uploaded, participants must submit the video link through the official contest portal at madeinamericalovedinnigeria.com and complete a submission form to validate their entry. The submission window opens December 1 and closes on December 8, with winners scheduled to be announced on December 12 through the U.S. Mission’s social media channels.

Videos will be judged based on creativity, relevance to the theme, storytelling quality, technical quality, and audience engagement. A panel appointed by the U.S. Mission will screen all submissions before selecting finalists. Finalists will also be required to submit additional publicity forms, a short biography, and a statement describing their video.

The top prize is a professional 4K camera bundle, including a Sony A7 IV camera, a 24–70mm lens, a 64GB memory card, and an extra battery. The Mission said the prize package is designed to support Nigeria’s rising generation of digital creators and inspire high-quality storytelling.

Other prizes, while not specified in detail, are expected to include tools and resources that further enable creativity and content production.

The U.S. Mission explained that the contest is part of a broader effort to tap into Nigeria’s growing digital economy and strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries. Nigeria is one of the United States’ major trade partners in Africa, with billions of dollars exchanged annually in technology, agriculture, health services, entertainment, and consumer goods.

The campaign also reflects Washington’s continued engagement with Nigeria’s youth and technology sectors. In recent years, the U.S. Mission has supported youth entrepreneurship, innovation training, and STEM-focused programs in Nigeria. By encouraging young Nigerians to participate in this contest, the Mission aims to celebrate innovation and creativity while highlighting the positive role of American products and services in Nigerian life.

The Mission said it expects entries to be humorous, creative, or informative, demonstrating how American brands—from digital tools and platforms to household products—enhance everyday life in Nigeria. Participants can showcase technology that improves productivity, health products that support wellness, or household items that simplify chores.

By encouraging original storytelling, the contest not only highlights the importance of American innovations but also provides a platform for young Nigerians to gain recognition and potentially grow their personal brands. For aspiring digital creators, the competition offers a rare opportunity to combine creativity with professional development.

Nigeria’s digital content and social media industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years. With millions of young people engaging with platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, the country has become a hub for creative storytelling, comedy skits, lifestyle content, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Government and private sector programs have increasingly recognised the potential of this growing economy, providing training, funding, and mentorship opportunities for young creators. Competitions like the U.S. Mission’s skit contest aim to complement these efforts by offering tangible rewards while highlighting global connections and opportunities.
