The Nasarawa State Police Command has arraigned two suspects in court for allegedly possessing banned knockouts and fireworks, highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal explosives during festive periods.
The suspects, whose identities were withheld, were arrested in Keffi, a major town in Nasarawa State. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development to newsmen, stating that the arrests were part of proactive measures by the police to ensure public safety.
According to SP Nansel, the suspects were charged to court following their apprehension. He said the arrests reflect the police command’s commitment to preventing the circulation and use of explosive materials that are considered dangerous and illegal under Nigerian law.
“These arrests are part of our ongoing enforcement efforts to curb the use and circulation of prohibited explosive materials, especially during festive periods,” SP Nansel said. “We wish to reiterate our warning against the sale, possession, and use of knockouts and fireworks. Offenders will be prosecuted according to the law.”
Knockouts and fireworks, although popular during celebrations, have been banned in many states due to their high risk of causing accidents and injuries. Knockouts are small explosive devices often used for entertainment during festive seasons, but they can cause burns, hearing damage, and even fatalities if not handled properly.

The police have also cautioned shop owners and traders against selling knockouts or fireworks, noting that violations will attract prosecution. The command is working to ensure that all residents can celebrate safely without the risk of accidents caused by banned explosives.
