The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has stirred fresh political debate after posting a controversial message on social media, suggesting that a well-known political figure has secretly agreed to become a vice-presidential candidate.

In a tweet shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Keyamo asked Nigerians to “bookmark” his post, claiming that the individual involved would soon release a statement explaining why he accepted the vice-presidential slot after a primary election that had already been concluded.

Although Keyamo did not mention any name, his message quickly attracted attention, with many Nigerians speculating about the identity of the person he was referring to. The post has since generated strong reactions from supporters and critics across the political space.

In the tweet, Keyamo alleged that the unnamed politician had written and rewritten drafts of a statement meant to justify his decision to accept the vice-presidential nomination. He claimed the statement would be aimed at misleading supporters.

“Finally, the chicken is coming home to roost,” Keyamo wrote. “I understand that someone, somewhere has drafted and redrafted the statement he will release to hoodwink his supporters on why he has accepted to be vice-presidential candidate after a primaries that he knows has long been concluded.”

The minister further mocked the expected content of the statement, describing it as filled with what he called “the normal gibberish” about wanting to rescue Nigeria.

According to Keyamo, the situation exposes what he described as a lack of honesty and consistency on the part of the unnamed politician. He added that the individual would soon be “unmasked” during campaign activities.

“It’s a tough one for him, but we are excited at the prospect of unmasking a true turncoat and a fraud at the coming campaigns,” he added.

Keyamo ended the tweet by urging Nigerians to save the post so they could revisit it once the statement is eventually released.

“Please, bookmark this tweet so we can all read his statement with some derision when it is eventually released,” he said.

Festus Keyamo is a senior lawyer and a prominent figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He has often been vocal on political issues and is known for using social media to express his views and challenge opposition figures.

His latest comment comes at a time when political activities are gradually building up ahead of future elections, with discussions around alliances, nominations, and possible candidates already gaining momentum.

Vice-presidential slots in Nigeria are often the subject of intense negotiations, especially among major political parties. Such positions are usually influenced by factors such as regional balance, party loyalty, electoral strength, and internal agreements reached during party primaries.

In past elections, disagreements over primary outcomes and nominations have led to defections, internal party crises, and legal battles. As a result, statements like Keyamo’s tend to attract wide attention, even when names are not mentioned.

So far, no politician has publicly responded to the tweet or claimed responsibility for the alleged vice-presidential acceptance. However, reactions on social media show that supporters of different political camps believe the comment was directed at specific individuals.

Some Nigerians criticized Keyamo for using harsh language, while others praised him for what they described as exposing political hypocrisy. A few commentators also called for calm, urging political leaders to focus on issues affecting ordinary citizens rather than personal attacks.

The tweet also highlights the growing role of social media in Nigeria’s political space. In recent years, platforms like X have become major tools for political communication, debates, and campaigns. Statements made online often shape public discussions and media reports.

As the political atmosphere continues to warm up, Nigerians are expected to hear more declarations, denials, and strategic messages from key political actors. Whether the statement predicted by Keyamo will be released, and whether his claims will be confirmed, remains to be seen.
