A Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom has reportedly been left heartbroken after his wife allegedly sold his properties in Nigeria and disappeared with her former boyfriend. The story, which has attracted wide attention on social media, has sparked strong reactions and renewed discussions about trust, long-distance relationships, and rushed marriages.

The incident was shared on TikTok by a woman identified as @sommica, who claimed that the man involved is her brother. According to her account, the events unfolded after the man met his wife through social media while living and working in the UK.

She explained that the relationship began on Instagram, where both parties reportedly connected and started chatting. After about six months of online communication, the man decided to travel to Nigeria so they could meet in person for the first time.

According to the narration, the physical meeting led to a fast-moving relationship. Within one month of meeting face to face, the man reportedly proposed to the woman, and they got married shortly after.

The woman was said to have had a child from a previous relationship, a fact the man allegedly accepted without complaint. He reportedly embraced both the woman and her child, taking full responsibility for their welfare.

After the wedding, plans were made for the couple to relocate to the United Kingdom together so they could live as a family. However, due to delays in processing the woman’s travel documents, she reportedly had to remain in Nigeria while her husband returned to the UK to continue his work and prepare for their reunion.

While still abroad, the man allegedly continued to support his wife financially. According to his sister’s account, he sent her money regularly, paid for her child’s needs, and ensured she was comfortable.

At some point, the woman reportedly requested to relocate from Owerri, Imo State, to Abuja, claiming she needed a “change of environment.” Although she was said to be schooling in Owerri at the time, the man allegedly agreed to her request.

He reportedly rented accommodation for her in Abuja and continued to provide financial support. In addition, he was said to have set up a shop for her to manage, hoping it would help her become financially independent while waiting for her travel papers.

Trouble reportedly began when the woman allegedly reconnected with her former boyfriend, whom she had dated during her secondary school years. The man was described as an errand runner based in Owerri.

According to the account shared online, the ex-boyfriend was allegedly invited to Abuja by the woman. It was claimed that she flew him in and out, bought him gifts, and supported him financially.

The situation reportedly came to public attention when the former boyfriend allegedly boasted openly during a gathering about his improved lifestyle. He was said to have claimed that his former girlfriend was sponsoring him, backing his claims with photos and videos.

When news of this reached the UK-based husband, he reportedly confronted his wife during a phone call. According to the account, the woman admitted to having an affair with her former boyfriend.

Following the admission, the man reportedly instructed his wife to vacate his property in Abuja, as he planned to return to Nigeria to address the matter personally.

However, instead of complying with his instruction, the woman allegedly sold off household items and other properties belonging to her husband. She was then said to have disappeared with her former boyfriend, cutting off communication.

As of the time the story went viral, the man was said to be devastated and struggling to come to terms with the situation. The whereabouts of the woman and the former boyfriend were reportedly unknown.

The story has generated intense reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing shock, sympathy, and anger. Some users described the incident as a painful lesson about trust, especially in relationships built mainly online.

Others warned against rushing into marriage without proper background checks and adequate time to understand one another. Many also pointed out the risks involved in long-distance marriages, where physical absence can create room for misunderstandings and betrayal.

In Nigeria, stories of failed marriages involving partners abroad are not new. Many Nigerians living overseas often marry spouses at home with the hope of relocating them later. However, delays in travel documentation, combined with long periods of separation, sometimes put pressure on such marriages.

Cultural expectations, financial dependence, and lack of close monitoring can also create challenges. In some cases, families only learn of problems when they have already escalated.

For now, the story remains based on allegations shared by a family member on social media. There has been no official statement from the woman involved, and no police report has been confirmed.

Despite this, the case has struck a chord with many Nigerians, serving as a reminder of the importance of patience, transparency and proper understanding before entering marriage.
