Popular Nigerian music star Davido has announced that he has discontinued the legal action he filed over the custody of his daughter, Imade.
The singer made the announcement in a statement shared on his social media page, explaining that he never asked for full custody of his daughter but only joint custody.
“I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
Davido’s decision comes after months of legal and public exchanges between him and his former partner, Sophia Momodu, who is the mother of Imade.
The singer also expressed displeasure over a comment allegedly made in court by Sophia Momodu’s lawyer, which he described as a “lowest blow.”
In his statement, Davido suggested that the custody matter had become tense in court. He claimed that he had been confident during proceedings until the opposing lawyer made a reference to his late son.
The singer lost his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 in a tragic incident that shocked the country. The death attracted widespread sympathy from fans and fellow celebrities.
Referring to the courtroom incident, Davido wrote that bringing up his deceased son crossed the line.
“That’s a no no! Lowest blow!” he said.
He added that although he has decided to drop the case, he wants his daughter to know in the future that he made efforts to be part of her life.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love!” he wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, Sophia Momodu has not publicly responded to Davido’s latest statement.
