Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Sunday joined top business leaders, investors and dignitaries to unveil a luxury property known as the Signature Home, part of the Cubana Millennium City project in Asaba.
The event, which also marked the 51st birthday celebration of popular entrepreneur Obi Cubana, was held at the project site and drew attention to the growing role of private investment in urban development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori praised the businessman for choosing to invest in Delta State, describing the Cubana Millennium City as a major project that could reshape Asaba and boost economic growth in the region.
“This development is not just about housing,” the governor said. “It is about building a new economic system that will create opportunities, support businesses and improve the lives of our people.”
He noted that projects like Cubana Millennium City would help expand the city, attract more investors and strengthen Asaba’s position as a key urban centre in both the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria.
Asaba, the capital of Delta State, has in recent years witnessed steady growth in population and infrastructure. Its location near major commercial cities like Onitsha, as well as its access to an international airport, has made it an attractive destination for real estate development and business investment.
The governor said his administration would continue to support private sector initiatives that align with its goals of economic development, job creation and improved infrastructure.
“We will continue to encourage investors who are ready to partner with us in building a stronger economy,” he added.
The unveiling of the Signature Home is seen as an important step in the larger Cubana Millennium City project, which is designed as a modern urban development combining residential, commercial and leisure facilities.
According to the organisers, the project is planned as a “city within a city,” offering a mix of housing, shopping areas and lifestyle amenities aimed at meeting the needs of a growing urban population.
In his remarks, Obi Cubana expressed gratitude to the governor and guests for their support, stating that the project is driven by a long-term vision to create a world-class environment in Asaba.
“We are not just building houses,” he said. “We are building a city that can compete with any modern city in Africa, where people can live, work and invest comfortably.”
He explained that the development is intended to provide not only accommodation but also a complete living experience, with facilities that meet international standards.
Obi Cubana also highlighted the strategic location of the project, noting that its proximity to the Asaba Airport and major transport routes makes it attractive for investors and residents.
Urban centres like Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt have long experienced rapid growth, but attention is now shifting to emerging cities like Asaba, where land is still available and infrastructure is improving.
Developments like Cubana Millennium City are expected to play a role in shaping the future of these cities by introducing organised layouts, better facilities and new business opportunities.
The collaboration between the Delta State Government and private investors is therefore seen as key to achieving sustainable development.
The event also served as a platform for networking among business leaders and investors, many of whom expressed interest in the potential of the project.
Guests were later taken on a guided tour of the Signature Home, where they were shown the design, layout and features of the property. The tour provided a closer look at the quality of construction and the standards the developers aim to maintain throughout the project.
The celebration of Obi Cubana’s birthday added a social aspect to the event, bringing together personalities from different sectors, including business, entertainment and politics.
Known for his investments in hospitality and entertainment, Obi Cubana has built a strong reputation as an entrepreneur with interests across several industries. His move into large-scale real estate development is seen as part of a broader effort to diversify his business portfolio.
For Delta State, the project represents an opportunity to attract more investors and create jobs for local residents. Construction activities, as well as future business operations within the city, are expected to provide employment and support economic growth.
Residents of Asaba and surrounding communities are also expected to benefit from improved infrastructure and increased commercial activity.
As Nigeria continues to face challenges in housing and urban planning, projects like Cubana Millennium City highlight the role of private investment in bridging the gap.
While government efforts remain important, partnerships with the private sector are increasingly seen as necessary to meet the needs of a growing population.
The unveiling of the Signature Home marks just one phase of the larger development, with more projects expected to follow in the coming years.
For now, the focus remains on delivering a modern urban space that meets the expectations of investors and residents alike.
With strong backing from the Delta State Government and interest from the business community, the Cubana Millennium City project is set to become a key part of Asaba’s growth story in the years ahead.
