Tragedy at Childbirth: Husband Blames Hospital for Wife’s Death

    Share

A grieving husband has accused a Lagos-based hospital of medical incompetence leading to the tragic death of his wife during childbirth.

The heartbroken man shared his story on Instagram, narrating how his wife, scheduled for a cesarean section (CS), died after complications arose during the procedure.

The mother of two passed away on October 30, leaving behind her husband, a newborn son, and their older daughter.

“A Routine Procedure Turns Into a Nightmare”

According to the man’s account, his wife was booked for the CS on October 29.

He said they arrived at Island Maternity that morning, completed all payments, and prepared for what they thought would be a smooth delivery.

“She was the third person booked for the day,” he wrote. “The first two mothers came out with their babies after 30 minutes each, safe and sound.”

However, when it was his wife’s turn, things quickly took a devastating turn.

    “Unexpected Complications Arise”

The husband revealed that after his son was delivered safely at 12:26 p.m., the hospital staff informed him of a complication involving a fibroid in his wife’s womb.

He said he was told the fibroid had been “cut off” during the operation, a decision he claimed was made without his consent.

“Who asked for them to cut it off?” he questioned in frustration.

He was then asked to procure additional blood to address the complications.

“The blood was not easy to get,” he recounted. “Luckily, I made some calls and managed to secure the two pints they requested.”

Despite their efforts, his wife’s condition worsened.

“Emergency Surgery and a Desperate Fight”

Hours after the initial surgery, the husband said his wife began experiencing severe complications.

He was informed that her stomach was swelling due to internal bleeding and that she needed emergency surgery.

During this second procedure, her uterus was completely removed to stop the bleeding.

“They had my brother-in-law sign a consent form for the removal of her uterus,” he said. “My wife complained of difficulty breathing before they rushed her back into the theatre.”

After the surgery, his wife was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she continued to struggle for her life.

“A Race Against Time for Blood”

The desperate husband described how he scrambled to provide the blood his wife needed during her fight for survival.

He said he rented the hospital’s ambulance to source blood plasma and additional pints of blood from various locations, including Gbagada and Yaba.

“She was on the seventh pint of blood when her heart gave out,” he said tearfully.

At 3 a.m., his wife went into cardiac arrest and passed away.

    “Husband Seeks Justice”

The devastated husband blamed the hospital for his wife’s death, accusing them of negligence and poor communication.

“If they had informed me about carrying out a fibroid operation with the CS, I would have told them not to,” he lamented.

He has called for legal action against the hospital, asking lawyers to assist him in seeking justice.

“This hospital’s incompetence took my wife’s life,” he said. “I need lawyers who are willing to help us litigate against them.”

    “Outpouring of Grief and Anger”

The story has sparked outrage and sympathy online, with many questioning the hospital’s handling of the case.

One Instagram user wrote, “This is heartbreaking. Women deserve better care during childbirth.”

Another commented, “Hospitals should be held accountable for such negligence. This should not happen to anyone.”
