Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has signed the ₦485.63 billion supplementary appropriation bill into law.
The signing ceremony, held on Monday at the Government House in Benin City, marked a significant milestone in the state’s governance.
This revised budget was approved by the Edo State House of Assembly earlier on the same day.
The 2024 budget includes ₦202.65 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditures and ₦282.99 billion for capital projects.
Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their quick action in approving the budget.
“I want to thank you for your cooperation and the speedy passage of this bill,” he said.
“With this momentum, Edo State is set to experience remarkable development. I see a team of dedicated individuals ready to work for the betterment of our state,” he added.
The Governor emphasized that the funds would drive transformative projects aimed at uplifting the state.
Assembly’s Commitment to Development
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, commended the collaboration between the legislative and executive arms.
He stated that the 8th Assembly prioritized the budget’s passage to ensure the administration’s plans could begin without delay.
“Government is a continuum, and we are committed to fostering development for the people of Edo State,” Agbebaku remarked.
The revised budget, originally submitted on November 13, 2024, underwent expedited deliberations before receiving the Assembly’s nod.
Capital Projects Take the Lead
The budget’s focus on capital projects signals the administration’s drive for infrastructural growth.
Observers have noted that this is one of the most ambitious budgets in recent years, aimed at tackling key sectors like health, education, and transportation.
Many Edo residents are hopeful that the increased capital allocation will translate into visible development across the state.
