The federal government is intensifying efforts to end the menace of banditry in the country.
This assurance came as the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, declared that “the end of banditry is near.”
He made the statement during the commissioning of two ATAK-129 helicopters for Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2 in Katsina State.
The deployment of these advanced aircraft is expected to enhance the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity to combat banditry and other criminal activities.
The Defence Minister, accompanied by Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, emphasized the superior capabilities of the ATAK-129 helicopters.
“These helicopters have advantages over other fighter jets,” he said.
“They ensure no enemy can hide from justice.”
He noted that the helicopters’ speed, precision, and reach make them ideal for tracking and neutralizing criminal elements.
The operation aims to restore peace, stability, and prosperity to the troubled Northwest region.
The Defence Minister highlighted the progress made in the fight against banditry in the past week.
He stated that Nigerian Air Force troops successfully destroyed several bandit hideouts.
“This success is already yielding fruitful results,” he said.
“Farmers are returning to their farms, children are going back to school, businesses are growing, and ordinary Nigerians can sleep in peace.”
The Minister lauded the dedication and bravery of the troops.
“We salute you for the personal sacrifices you are making,” he said.
“You leave your families and the comfort of your homes to secure our future.”
He assured the troops of the Federal Government’s commitment to their welfare.
“We will provide you with the necessary resources and ensure you receive the best incentives and benefits,” he added.
The Minister urged the troops to maintain synergy with ground forces and other stakeholders.
“Together, we will dominate the battle space and achieve successful results,” he said.
He also called on Nigerians to support the military through intelligence sharing and prayers.
“The end is near,” he declared.
“We need maximum cooperation, intelligence, and prayers from the public.”
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, also commended the troops’ recent achievements.
“Several bandit hideouts have been destroyed,” he noted.
“If this continues, we will finish banditry soon.”
He expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the new helicopters and the professionalism of the officers operating them.
