Former President Goodluck Jonathan has officially declared Governor Siminalayi Fubara the emerging “General” of Rivers State politics, despite the challenges his administration has faced since taking office.

Jonathan made this declaration during a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he emphasized that political challenges were an essential part of leadership and would ultimately shape Fubara into a stronger leader.

“You will face a lot of challenges,” Jonathan said in his address. “But remember, nobody becomes a General without fighting wars. Whatever challenges you face now are preparing you to be a General in politics.”

Jonathan’s statement resonated with the people of Rivers State, who have watched Fubara navigate a political landscape marked by opposition and tension. Jonathan’s words were meant to inspire confidence in the Governor, reminding the people that such struggles were a normal part of political life.

The former President also urged the people of Rivers to continue supporting Fubara, highlighting the importance of unity and peace for the state’s progress. Jonathan explained that Rivers State holds a central position in the Niger Delta region and that any instability there could have severe consequences for the entire country.

“We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the center of the Niger Delta,” Jonathan emphasized. “If we create problems in Rivers State, we create a crisis in the Niger Delta, which is detrimental to our economy.”

Jonathan’s comments reflect the broader view that Rivers is key to Nigeria’s national development, not only due to its economic importance but also because of the political influence the state holds.

Fubara, in his response, accepted the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land, conferred upon him by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers. He expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the strong support from both the Etche and Ikwerre communities during his time in office.

“I am honored to accept this title,” Fubara said. “This recognition strengthens the bond between our communities, and I am committed to working for their continued progress.”

Fubara’s leadership style has been marked by promises to improve the living standards of the people. At the ceremony, he pledged to continue focusing on key development projects to better the lives of his people, particularly in rural communities.

“We have awarded road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities,” Fubara announced. “These projects will be completed, and in the coming months, we will come back here to commission them.”

Governor Fubara’s commitment to infrastructure development has been a core part of his administration’s agenda. His focus on improving transportation networks in rural areas reflects his desire to connect people to opportunities that can lift them out of poverty.

In addition to his development promises, Fubara also made a commitment to uphold law and order in the state, emphasizing that maintaining peace is essential for the state’s continued progress.

“We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land,” Fubara stated. “Thank you for your patience and support.”
