In a groundbreaking move, the Nigerian Army has rewarded outstanding soldiers with electric motorcycles as part of its commitment to boosting morale and promoting sustainability.
The presentation took place on Wednesday at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.
Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), led the event.
He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. OO Oloyede.
According to Abubakar, the initiative is not only about recognizing excellence but also about sustainability.
“The electric motorcycles will help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels,” Abubakar said.

“They have a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and can cover up to 100 kilometers on a full charge,” he explained.
The motorcycles only take two hours to charge, making them a practical solution for soldiers.
A charging station has already been set up at the cantonment to support the initiative.

Abubakar explained that this effort builds on a similar initiative started in 2022.
Back then, the previous GOC, Major General AB Ibrahim, also rewarded deserving soldiers.
“This initiative is now a tradition in the 3 Division,” Abubakar noted.
He assured soldiers that more rewards would follow in phases.
“Hard work will continue to be recognized and rewarded,” the GOC promised.
He encouraged all personnel to remain dedicated to their duties.
Warrant Officer Ibrahim Fidelis, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude.
“We are deeply honored by this recognition,” he said.
Fidelis assured that the gesture would boost morale and motivate the soldiers to excel.
He also praised the leadership for its commitment to the welfare of troops.
