Osun State’s political scene has been thrown into turmoil following allegations of a plot to attack the former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola.

A civil rights group, the Centre Against Violence in Politics (CAVIP), claims some political elements are planning the alleged scheme to stifle Oyetola’s influence ahead of the 2026 Osun gubernatorial elections.

According to the group, these elements perceive Oyetola as a threat to their ambitions and are determined to sideline him by any means necessary.

CAVIP’s statement alleges the involvement of disgruntled members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) working in cahoots with influential figures in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources suggest these actors believe Oyetola is being supported by the Presidency to challenge the reelection plans of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Though Oyetola has not publicly declared any interest in running for governor, his close allies, including his wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, are allegedly spearheading efforts to secure his candidacy.

Oyetola’s Allies and Their Strategic Moves

Prominent figures in Oyetola’s alleged support group include Prince Adebayo Adeleke (Banik), Comrade Amitolu Shittu, and the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Ayotunde Olabomi.

Reports claim this faction is preparing legal strategies to pave the way for Oyetola’s return to the Osun Government House.

Some believe his ministerial appointment offers a political cushion in case his governorship bid fails.

CAVIP Condemns Violence

CAVIP has called for calm, describing any plot against Oyetola as a dangerous affront to democracy.

In a joint statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Ismail Ewulomi, and Secretary, Comrade Michael Adebanire, the group warned against using violence to achieve political objectives.

“Eliminating opponents to achieve political goals is unacceptable and against God’s commandments,” the statement read.

Haunting Shadows of Osun’s Past

The group reminded stakeholders of Osun State’s dark political history, citing the tragic murders of Hon. Odunayo Olagbaju and Chief Bola Ige.

“These events should serve as a warning,” CAVIP said, emphasizing that Osun must never revisit such violent chapters.

APC Stands by Oyetola

In a related development, the Osun APC State Executive Committee passed a vote of confidence in Oyetola, acknowledging his dedication and support to the party.

The party clarified that it has not endorsed any candidate for the 2026 governorship race, urging all stakeholders to maintain neutrality.

“It is morally wrong for party officers to openly support any governorship aspirant,” the APC said in a resolution.

Party leaders emphasized the need for unity, urging members to rebuild the APC from the grassroots to reclaim the state in the next elections.
