Kebbi State’s District Head of Wari, Maga, Hon. Mohammed D. Sani, has showered praise on Governor Dr. Nasiru Idris for his initiative to renovate the long-abandoned Government Girls Comprehensive Science Secondary School in Maga. The school, left in a state of disrepair for almost two decades, has now become a symbol of the state’s growing commitment to the advancement of education under Governor Idris’ leadership.
Speaking to newsmen on January 28, 2025, at the flag-off of the 87-kilometer Federal Dabai-Mahuta-Koko road project, the district head, who also served as the former chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Council, expressed his deep satisfaction with the governor’s timely intervention.
“This school had been left in ruins for 19 years,” Sani said. “No previous governor saw it fit to address the deteriorating condition of the school, but now, under the leadership of Governor Nasiru Idris, the school is finally being rehabilitated. This is a monumental step for our people.”
For almost two decades, the school, a vital educational institution for young girls in the area, had been neglected, leaving students to study under deplorable conditions. The lack of maintenance and necessary repairs had led to the school becoming a shadow of its former self, with crumbling infrastructure and unsafe classrooms.
“Successive administrations had turned a blind eye to the state of the school, but now, Governor Idris has taken it upon himself to restore this facility to its former glory. This renovation will not only enhance the quality of education but also encourage more girls to pursue science education in this part of the state,” Sani remarked.
The district head praised the governor’s wider vision for education, citing the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers in Kebbi State. Governor Idris has implemented significant wage increases for educators, with minimum wages set at N18,000, N30,000, and N70,000 for various categories of teachers. More notably, no teacher has been left without pay or allowances, a significant achievement in a state where such issues have often been a concern.
“The payment of salaries without delays and the wage adjustments for teachers are clear signs of Governor Idris’ commitment to education,” Sani explained. “This is not just about renovating buildings; it’s about investing in the people who shape the future of our children.”
The governor’s efforts extend beyond education, as his administration has also made strides in addressing infrastructure deficits across the state. The rehabilitation of the Dabai-Mahuta-Koko road, a critical project in Kebbi State, is another testament to Governor Idris’ approach to sustainable development.
“Governor Idris is laying the groundwork for a transformed Kebbi,” Sani stated. “The ongoing road projects and other infrastructural developments, including the rehabilitation of schools and hospitals, are laying a solid foundation for future generations.”
The district head’s remarks come at a time when the people of Kebbi are beginning to see tangible changes in the state’s development trajectory. Governor Idris’ administration has been characterized by significant infrastructure upgrades, particularly in the education and road sectors. These projects are expected to improve the state’s economic viability and the living conditions of its residents.
Hon. Sani also commended Governor Idris for his role in improving the security situation in Kebbi State. He noted that the governor’s efforts in boosting the state’s security have created a safer environment for residents.
“Security is paramount to the development of any region,” Sani said. “Governor Idris has shown dedication to ensuring that our communities remain safe and secure. I have instructed the village and ward heads to work closely with the security agencies and ensure that the people cooperate in identifying and exposing bad elements within our midst.”
The district head further emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining security, pointing out that public cooperation was critical in addressing challenges posed by criminals and insurgents.
“Kebbi State has long been plagued by security issues, but with Governor Idris at the helm, there is a new sense of hope,” Sani continued. “We are confident that these positive changes will continue, as long as we remain united in supporting our governor’s efforts.”
Governor Idris, who has made significant strides in governance since taking office, has been widely praised for his pragmatic approach to leadership, which balances infrastructural development with the improvement of social services like education and security. His focus on long-term sustainability is expected to bring lasting benefits to the state.
