Abdulahi Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Taraba State Police Command, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness. Usman, who had been serving as the spokesperson for the Command for the past three years, died early on Sunday morning at his residence in Jalingo, the state capital.

His death, which came as a shock to both his colleagues and close friends, was confirmed by the acting spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, Gambo Kwache. Kwache, who had been filling in for Usman during his medical leave, expressed his sadness.

“I woke up to 14 missed calls on my phone and a message saying that Oga is dead. I will call you back, let me get there first,” said Kwache. His words reflected the shock and disbelief surrounding the unexpected loss.

A close friend of the late PPRO, Mr. Ahmed Manga, also confirmed Usman’s death, sharing details of the events leading up to it. According to Manga, Usman had been ill for some time but his condition had worsened in the hours before his passing. Manga explained that Usman had struggled with the illness the night before his death and was being rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Jalingo when he passed away.

“He was sick, although not much, until last night when he started struggling with the sickness. We wanted to take him to the Federal Medical Center, Jalingo,” Manga recounted. “Before we could get there, he died on the way. He was confirmed dead when we arrived at the FMC.”
