Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will headline the first-ever Things Fall Apart Festival, scheduled for June 29 to July 5, 2025, in Enugu. Organized by the Centre for Memories – Ncheta Ndigbo, the festival transforms the annual Things Fall Apart Day into a weeklong celebration of Chinua Achebe’s literary legacy.

Adichie, internationally acclaimed for works such as Americanah and Half of a Yellow Sun, will deliver the keynote address titled “Masculine, Feminine, Human – The Dialogue of Complements in Things Fall Apart.”

The festival will feature a rich lineup of cultural and literary events, including a re-imagined Umuofia village, theatrical performances, art exhibitions, essay competitions, film screenings, and guided memory walks. Highlights include a showcase of the iconic Ajofia masquerade and a reunion of the original cast from the 1987 television adaptation of Things Fall Apart, featuring Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie.

Founded in 2017, the Centre for Memories is committed to preserving Igbo history, culture, and identity. The festival marks a major cultural initiative to honor Achebe’s enduring impact on world literature and to engage new generations in conversations around heritage and identity.

The event is expected to draw scholars, artists, students, and literature lovers from across Nigeria and abroad, offering a vibrant platform for reflection, dialogue, and celebration of one of Africa’s most influential literary figures.
