The Lagos State Police Command has rescued two people who were kidnapped last Thursday night at the Ijede creekside in the Ikorodu area of the state.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Monday that the victims were taken from their homes located deep inside the creek by unknown gunmen who escaped through the forest and waterways.
According to Hundeyin, the police swung into action after receiving a distress call around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday. Over 15 officers, including tactical squads, detectives, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members, were quickly mobilised to the area.
“On arrival, it was confirmed that two persons had been kidnapped. On the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, a massive search-and-rescue operation was launched,” Hundeyin said.
The team blocked all possible escape routes in the surrounding creeks and forests. Their efforts paid off on Sunday night, when the two victims were found and rescued unhurt. They have since been reunited with their families.
Hundeyin praised the bravery of the officers and the cooperation of the local community, saying their swift response helped ensure the success of the mission despite the difficult terrain.
He added that the joint team is still combing the area to arrest the kidnappers and prevent future attacks.
The police urged residents, especially those living in remote or creekside communities, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. Emergency numbers provided by the command are 08063299264 and 08065154338.
