Liverpool Sets Sights on Osimhen in Summer Transfer Move

    Share

English Premier League giants Liverpool FC are reportedly preparing to enter talks with Napoli for the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, ahead of the 2025/2026 season. The 26-year-old goal machine has emerged as a top target for the Reds as they look to revamp their attacking options.

Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, had a standout year, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. His performances have drawn attention from several top clubs across Europe.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool’s interest in Osimhen is part of a broader plan to replace Darwin Núñez, who struggled in the recently concluded season and is now attracting offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe. Nunez only managed seven goals across all competitions for the Reds last season, prompting the club to consider other options.

Sources claim Napoli are willing to let Osimhen go this summer and that the Nigerian striker is also open to joining Liverpool, a move that could speed up the negotiations. His contract includes a £63 million release clause, making him a relatively affordable option compared to other elite strikers in the market.

Osimhen’s combination of speed, power, and clinical finishing makes him an ideal fit for Arne Slot’s team, who are seeking to return to title contention. However, Liverpool are not alone in the race. Chelsea and Manchester United have also shown interest in the Super Eagles striker, potentially sparking a bidding war in the coming weeks.

While Osimhen is Liverpool’s primary target, the club is also keeping tabs on other forwards including Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig), and Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt).

Liverpool have already been active in the transfer market. They recently signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million, and are reportedly preparing a club-record £105 million bid for Frimpong’s teammate, Florian Wirtz. Meanwhile, long-serving right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has completed a £10 million move to Real Madrid.

Osimhen, who is set to return to Napoli after his loan spell in Turkey, is expected to resolve his future in the coming weeks. Despite winning the Serie A title with Napoli in the 2022/2023 season, his relationship with the club appears to have cooled, increasing the likelihood of a summer move.

With Liverpool showing strong intent and the player open to the move, fans at Anfield may soon be cheering for one of Africa’s finest strikers, as Osimhen prepares for what could be the next big step in his career.
