President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been conferred with the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia, the highest national honour from the Caribbean island nation.

The special ceremony took place during a state event in Saint Lucia, where President Tinubu was recognised for promoting diplomatic relations and cooperation between Nigeria and Saint Lucia. The award, which is rarely given to foreign leaders, was presented amid cheers and celebrations, marking a major moment in Nigeria’s international relations.

Earlier, during a joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, President Tinubu announced the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He described the move as a “symbolic bridge” and proposed the creation of a Joint Commission or Political Consultation Agreement to deepen Nigeria’s partnership with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The new alliance is expected to open up opportunities for trade, education, cultural exchange, and political cooperation between Nigeria and Caribbean nations.
