Lead counsel for the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has condemned the killing of at least 19 people in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victims, mostly natives of Ebonyi State, were attacked by unknown gunmen during a meeting on Monday evening.
Reports say the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on the group. The police have launched an investigation, but initial findings suggest the attack may have stemmed from a disagreement, as the gunmen reportedly demanded the meeting minutes before the shooting began.
Ejiofor described the incident as a “senseless and cold-blooded massacre,” calling it a gross violation of Nigerians’ right to life, peaceful assembly, and freedom of movement. He urged Anambra authorities to arrest and prosecute the killers, saying justice must be served regardless of who is involved.
“The findings of the investigation must not be kept secret,” Ejiofor said, stressing that the victims deserve justice and that peace must prevail in the region.
