Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has denied reports linking him to the race for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, Akume described the reports as false and a distraction from the work assigned to him by President Bola Tinubu.

The SGF stressed that he is not vying for the APC chairmanship or any other party position, as his primary focus remains on supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and driving national development.

“Senator Akume believes that while qualified individuals from the North-Central can contest the chairmanship if zoned to the region, he is not one of them,” Odunuga said.

Quoting Akume directly, he added: “I am not in a hurry to abandon the responsibilities given to me by the President. I am not in a race I never entered. Everything I’ve achieved is through God’s grace and the support of others, including President Tinubu.”
