Tension has gripped the Rest House area of Kadarko in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State following a deadly attack by suspected Fulani militias on Tuesday night.

The attackers stormed the community around 10:45 p.m., opening fire and causing residents to flee for safety. One person, identified as Mr. Nyianshima and popularly known as “Iron Money,” was killed, while a mobile police officer stationed nearby was shot and is now receiving medical treatment.

Residents say the quick response of security operatives at a nearby checkpoint helped prevent more deaths. “When the gunshots started, people woke up in fear and ran. The security men engaged the attackers and gave us a chance to escape,” a witness said.

Locals also alleged that their community has become a target whenever violence breaks out in neighbouring Benue State. “Each time there’s a clash involving Fulanis in Benue, we suffer here in Kadarko, Dooka, Angwan Yaara, and Dooga,” a resident complained.

They also expressed concern over the growing occupation of their farmlands by armed herders, leaving many residents afraid to return home or continue farming.
