Former presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, has made it clear he will never return to work for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he remains committed to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
Shehu, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Buhari during his eight years in office, stated this during an interview on Beyond The Headlines, a TVC News programme aired on Thursday.
He said his loyalty remains with Buhari, even though the former president is no longer in power.
“I think a man should serve only one master at a time,” Shehu said. “I’m currently with Muhammadu Buhari. If you’re expecting me to switch camps like some people, I’m not in that mode.”
He added that Buhari gave him full trust during their time in government, and that bond still means a lot to him.
“When I speak for Buhari these days, I do so out of commitment,” he said. “I could have walked away like others, but I chose to stay.”
Shehu also emphasized that Buhari is not politically active anymore and does not want to interfere in President Bola Tinubu’s government.
“We are careful with public statements because there’s only one president in the country now – and that is President Tinubu,” he said.
Garba Shehu had previously worked with Atiku Abubakar when he was Vice President under President Olusegun Obasanjo, but moved to Buhari’s camp ahead of the 2015 elections. His latest remarks confirm that he has no plans to return to his former boss.
