Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and allied political groups not to abandon the party due to internal issues, saying setbacks are normal and can be fixed with unity and commitment.
Speaking at the end of the PDP South West Zonal Caucus meeting in Ibadan on Friday, the governor likened the party to a house with a leaking roof.
“You can’t abandon your house because of a leaking roof,” Makinde said. “The PDP is built on a strong foundation. Like every structure, it may face some damage, but it’s our duty to repair and strengthen it.”
Makinde appealed to members to remain loyal and work together to resolve disagreements, rebuild trust, and prepare the party for future success at the polls.
He praised the efforts and sacrifices of PDP leaders and members, promising to continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure the party’s relevance and victory in coming elections.
“Let us fix the roof together and keep this house strong for the future,” he concluded.
The PDP, once Nigeria’s ruling party, has been facing internal divisions in several states, including the South West, since losing the presidency in 2015.
