Elder statesman and former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed surprise over Peter Obi’s involvement in the newly formed political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Bode George said he was puzzled by Obi’s decision to join the coalition, which includes several former PDP heavyweights and aims to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party (LP) and came third, recently aligned with the coalition, sparking reactions within the opposition circle.

“I was wondering what Peter Obi is doing there,” Bode George said. “Which of them hasn’t passed through the PDP? They all benefited from this party. You don’t abandon your father’s house. What are they looking for, if not personal interest?”

He urged Obi and other former PDP members in the coalition to return to the party to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

“You want to remove Tinubu, but you’re dividing the house. The electorate is what matters. PDP is ready and capable if we stay united,” he said.

Bode George also noted that the PDP had resolved its recent internal crisis and is now focused on rebuilding. He said the party remains the most viable platform for any serious push against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

Other members of the ADC-led coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Chibuike Amaechi, among others.

As political realignments continue ahead of 2027, George’s remarks reflect growing concern within the PDP about the fragmentation of opposition forces and the risk it poses to defeating the APC.
