A top terrorist commander, Ibn Ali, has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, the Defence Headquarters has confirmed. Alongside the surrender, the military arrested five terrorist collaborators and rescued four hostages in the area.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday. He revealed that the troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and cash amounting to N822,500 from the suspects. Additionally, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were safely detonated by the soldiers.
In a related security operation in the North-West, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma arrested five suspected terrorists and rescued two kidnap victims. Firearms, motorcycles, and cash were recovered, while terrorists’ camps and equipment were destroyed.
Meanwhile, security forces in the Niger Delta under Operation Delta Safe have destroyed 15 illegal oil refining sites, arrested eight suspected oil thieves, and recovered stolen oil products valued at over N263 million. Among the recovered products were 198,482 litres of crude oil, 63,846 litres of refined AGO, and 947 litres of PMS.
The troops also seized nine vehicles, destroyed numerous crude oil cooking ovens, pits, boats, storage tanks, drums, and confiscated arms, ammunition, and IED-making materials.
These joint military efforts underscore ongoing moves to curb insecurity, terrorism, and oil theft across Nigeria’s troubled regions.
