Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is reportedly ready to let go of at least six players as he reshapes his squad for the upcoming football season.
According to The Athletic, Guardiola wants a leaner team and has given the green light for some first-team regulars and young talents to leave the club.
Top on the list is England international defender John Stones, 31, who has been a key part of City’s defence in recent years. Also set to depart is Ilkay Gundogan, who only returned to the club last season from Barcelona after previously captaining the side to a treble in 2023.
Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is another name being considered for exit as the club looks to balance the books and create space for potential new signings.
Young prospects Nico O’Reilly, Claudio Echeverri, and Oscar Bobb are also being mentioned as possible departures either on loan or permanent deals.
City are making moves after falling behind Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League title race last season. Guardiola, who is known for his tactical precision, is reportedly planning to work with a smaller, more flexible squad.
While fresh arrivals are still expected before the transfer window closes, the club is focusing on releasing players who may not play a central role in the manager’s plans.
Manchester City fans can expect more changes in the coming weeks as the club prepares to bounce back stronger in the new season.
